Decking the home out with a scarily good display has become a Halloween tradition for many homeowners. But since the devilish decor is on show for only a few days, most families don't want to rack up a frightening bill.
Fortunately, a big budget is not required to get a high impact look for Halloween, according to decorator Lisa Canning (lisacanning.ca), who specializes in creating lavish looks economically, and is currently developing a series on that theme for HGTV. Great holiday decor can be achieved for almost nothing, says Canning, as long as you're willing to invest a little time.
Halloween may in fact be the easiest and least expensive holiday to decorate, says Canning. Because it evokes images of dusty and derelict spaces, old or damaged pieces from the attic, thrift-store treasures, and garage sale finds will fit right in.
"It's a time when you can mix up a lot of colours styles and textures, and go for a really eclectic look."
